The Rolling Exhibition

My good friend Arthur Calasans, photographer from Instituto Paradigma, just sent me a very interesting link. Kevin Michael Connolly was born without his legs...he is a skateboarder and professional skier and now a photographer to. He goes down streets around the world on his skateboard taking street shots and portraits...his photos form what he called The Rolling Exhibition. What amazed me while seeing his pictures was the reaction of the people being photographed and the position we as viewers are put in to..... A great work on our reactions and relationship towards difference.

Last year, a new law brought all the publicity outdoors down here in São Paulo. The idea was to reduce visual pollution. I lost the transition period (wasn’t living here by that time) so when i came back i discovered a new city..to my eyes it looked bigger...less oppressive...some historical buildings and small details are now finally visible!! I wont discuss here how the law was put in practice, for sure lots of people lost there jobs from night to day. The strange is that lots of the outdoor structures are still up..maybe waiting that one day the advertising industry will be able to bring them back to life...imagine the amount of money that they use to move in a city as big as São Paulo. Let's hope they come down also.

Final format.

The process off image making includes the final presentation. A bunch of isolated pictures on a HD or a bunch of negatives in a box are just unfinished work. Its also clear that a great image badly printed, in the wrong canvas, the wrong paper, the wrong wall, a bad digital support...etc...is not as great as it could be.
I've been fighting for months to find a way to present these series. And now, under the deadline pressure for Voies Off festival and a gallery submission i have the feeling i finally found it. These is just a small sample...i see it big like 2 meters in the long side... it asks you to come close and see the people. That’s what i feel...but i wouldn’t post these if i didn't want a second opinion...so what do you thing?

New project on the run

After a few weeks just getting shit together...by that i mean sending CV's, work to festivals, awards and organizing archives...i finally went out to shoot again. Feels great!!
So, it's been a long time i wanted to walk around Elevado Costa e Silva (Minhocão) on a Sunday afternoon. The huge bridge that crosses the center of São Paulo closes on sundays for recriational use. Im still in the brain storm porsion of the project...just going there, walking and shooting what i feel like shooting. Lets see where these will go!

On the road...

Before the storm.

I told you i would go back to the street...but im still pretty much stuck with my computer...taking photos from my windows. Thats Vila Congonhas São Paulo...i live in the street where that commercial airplane from TAM crashed these year killing more then 200 people. As you can see airplanes still come an go in a 3 to 5 minutes interval, even before one off the strongest tropical storms i saw these summer.

When will the next plane fall? Whe are all just taking the chance....

I'm back...

Hey..long time!! I have being working like crazy to make SLIDELUCK POTSHOW São Paulo. The show was a big sucess..and lots of fun. The problem is that i passed the last two weeks watching São Paulo from my window while sitting in front of the computer...so from today im back to the street and i leave you with a view from my window.
